Sports program

Funded in conjunction with grants from the Australian Sports Commission and the Premiers Sporting Challenge, the school offers an innovative sports training program, facilitated by our dedicated PDHPE (personal development, health and physical education) lead teacher.

The program has been specifically developed to meet the needs of our students.

We have a strong focus on swimming and hydrotherapy, making use of our own school swimming pool. Specialist swim coaches attend the school twice weekly to run sessions.

Other regular activities include skill building through our strong community partnership with Elanora Heights, DanceSport and Warringah Aquatic Centre (swimming lessons for students who are ready for an Olympic-size pool).

Additional opportunities are provided from term to term and have included sports such as 10-pin bowling, yoga, gymnastics, athletics skills and team games (such as soccer and T-ball).

Senior students have access to our Engine Room which is a specialised gym. It uses certain activities and equipment to give the body vestibular (movement) and proprioceptive (pressure) input. This allows our students to learn self-regulation and be in the zone for learning.

Every morning tea and lunch time students are provided with themed sporting equipment and activities to encourage communication, as well as being physically active.

Examples include:

  • trampolining;
  • bike riding (including purpose built modified bikes);
  • ball games;
  • obstacle courses.
