School program highlights
Fisher Road School Zones
Fisher Road school has developed a successful program that has been adapted from the Zones of RegulationⓇ. The Fisher Road School Zones is an interactive tool to assist students to understand, maintain and change their alertness to engage during daily activities. Developing connections through co-regulation, leading to the longer-term goal of self-regulation is a focus to reinforce behaviours.
The Fisher Road School Zones toolbox is used in the classroom for students to engage with and use the tools for optimal states of learning.
Integration
At Fisher Road School, we value the importance of inclusion and connection within the wider community.
Our students have opportunities to participate in shared learning experiences and activities with Cromer Public School, promoting social interaction, confidence, and mutual understanding. These integration programs support students in developing friendships, communication skills, and a sense of belonging, while helping foster an inclusive mindset among all learners.
Together, we celebrate diversity and create meaningful opportunities for every student to thrive.
Work Skills
Fisher Road has a varied work experience program that teaches valuable skills to our senior students which enables them to develop sound work practices as well as appropriate social behaviours necessary to be a member of the working community.
Developing work skills helps prepare students for a smooth transition to post school options upon completion of school, whether it be community participation or transition to work. We provide many on site activities to develop and increase students abilities to stay on task which is important for transitioning to work after school.
The school based activities we provide include:
- Work skills boxes
- Recycling
- Paper shredding
- Packaging at One Meal
- Pamphlet delivering
- Cafe and senior restaurant programs
- Canteen management
- Laundry
- Bus maintenance
- Maintenance of school grounds
As well as the school based work skills, we also offer a variety of community based programs that are important in developing and generalising skills learnt at school that can be carried across to organisations in the community.
These worksites are great for developing various work skills in our students, and also provide opportunities for them to socialise and practice communication with other people.
